On Aug. 16 a new wildfire was reported approximately 15 miles east of Salina in the Cowboy Drainage area. The fire is burning in rough terrain, limiting firefighter access. Air crews along with ground crews are working to establish containment lines.
For public and firefighter safety, individuals are being asked to avoid the fire area. As of Aug. 19 the fire is estimated at 225 acres and is seven percent contained. The cause of the fire is believed to be human caused but is still under investigation.
Currently no structures are endangered and no injuries have been reported.
