OGDEN, Utah (Standard-Examiner) — Northern Utah jail populations are falling. The Standard-Examiner reports law enforcement officials responding to the coronavirus pandemic are sending fewer detainees to jail, except for violent offenders. The Weber County Jail in Ogden had about 780 inmates this time last year. Now, the head count is down to about 685 today. Davis County’s jail population at Farmington dipped below 500, compared to past daily averages of 600 to 700. Police departments are participating in the effort to limit jail populations, which are at high risk of spreading infection if any inmates contract the coronavirus.
