Rep. Chris Stewart’s thoughts on the CARES Act

Rep. Chris Stewart shared his thoughts on the CARES Act as well as the COVID-19 outbreak on Morning talk on Mar. 30.

He shared that he felt this stimulus package was absolutely essential, stating that “economically we’ve never experienced anything like this.”

Discussing the stimulus package he emphasized that it is directed specifically towards agriculture, small businesses and people that are self employed. He also wanted to make sure people knew that $100 billion of the package was to help hospitals, especially rural hospitals that run on a very small profit margin.

Rep. Stewart stated that $350 billion was directed at small businesses saying its “far better to keep small businesses operating than to have them shut down and hope that they come back later.” He also continues to look toward the future saying that “at some point we are going to have to go back to work.”

Rep. Stewart also shared his frustration toward people that have been critical towards President Trump stating that the people who are critical of him now for being to slow to respond to the virus are the same people who were critical of him when he announced travel bans between the U.S. and China.

Speaking about the virus, Rep. Stewart gave encouragement and hope for the future stating, “we will defeat it, we will overcome it, we will be able to get back to work.”
