Snow College Soccer Coach Resigns To Accept Division I Position

EPHRAIM, Utah-Snow College athletics director Rob Nielson today announced head men’s and women’s soccer coach, Nuno Gourgel, has resigned his position at Snow College to accept a Division-I coaching position in Pennsylvania. Gourgel was hired in 2016 as the first men’s and women’s soccer coach in Snow College history. During his four-year stint, Gourgel posted a combined record of 108-30-13 (.758), including a mark of 59-7-11 on the women’s side and 49-23-2 on the men’s side.
 
“We express our gratitude to Coach Gourgel for helping to build an extremely competitive, and nationally recognized soccer program in such a short period of time,” Nielson said. “We appreciate his dedication and leadership over the past four years. We wish Nuno and his wife, Dakota, all the very best on this new opportunity.”
 
On the women’s side, Gourgel was named the Region XVIII Coach of the Year three different times, and led the Lady Badgers to three Region XVIII regular-season championships, as well as three Region Tournament Championships. In 2019, after winning the Region XVIII Tournament, Gourgel led Snow College to its first-ever NJCAA National Championship Tournament appearance after winning the District Championship match. The team finished the season ranked No. 6 in the nation.
 
For the men’s team, Gourgel led the Badgers to a Region XVIII Tournament title in 2017 and 2018, and went on to finish runner-up in the District Championship match both season. In 2018, Snow College finished the season ranked No. 10 in the nation. During the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the Badgers finished the year ranked among the top-20 teams in the country.
 
A search for Gourgel’s replacement is currently underway.
