(Eagle Mountain, UT) — A 19-year-old woman from Eagle Mountain is in serious condition at a hospital after Utah County Sheriff’s deputies say she was accidentally shot by a 17-year-old boy.

According to deputies, the gun had jammed unexpectedly, and went off when the boy tried to move it.

The woman had to be airlifted to the University of Utah Medical Center. Doctors say the round hit the victim in the lower back.
