ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — As competition among ski companies heats up, information about what they pay to use public land is diminishing. The Aspen Times reports that the U.S. Forest Service reversed its policy on releasing permit fees paid by individual ski areas after Vail Resorts objected. Vail and others in the industry argue that the fees they pay are trade secrets. The Forest Service agreed and now releases only aggregate information about fees. The Times reported the story based on documents it obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.
