Candlelight awards presented in Ephraim

Ephraim Middle School held its 69th candlelight service on Thursday night and awarded candles to Barbara Wintch of Manti and Charlie Alder of Ephraim.  Barbara was raised in Orem and moved to Manti in 1967 when she married John Wintch.  She is a former schoolteacher, Manti City Council member and also served as Manti’s mayor.  She and her husband have six children and 24 grandchildren.

Charlie Alder was born and raised in Ephraim.  He attended Snow College and served with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam.  He is married to Theressa Alder, and they have three children and 10 grandchildren.  Charlie owned and operated Charlie’s Drive-in on the south end of Ephraim for many years.  He is also responsible for organizing the Chamber of Commerce and beginning Ephraim’s Christmas light parade.
The awards were presented by 22 Ephraim Middle School honor students who have maintained a 4.0 grade point average through their middle school years.
