Senate President J. Stuart Adams issued a statement on Dec. 11 about the special session call by Governor Gary R. Herbert for the Legislature to consider the Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force’s recommendation.
In the statement he says “I appreciate Governor Herbert calling a special session. The Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force spent most of the year studying how to address the state’s revenue imbalance. Following a robust process and receiving extensive feedback from Utahns, the recommendation is now ready for the Legislature to consider it.”
Also in the statement, he went on to say “a $160 million tax cut for Utah citizens will begin in 2020 while addressing the imbalance in the state budget if the current proposal passes. We are working to improve Utah’s tax structure today for tomorrow’s future.”
The Legislature will be holding the special session to address the tax reform recommendation on Dec. 12 at 5:00 p.m.
