Utah Department of Natural Resources extends the closed fire season

The Utah Department of Natural Resources has extended the closed fire season for parts of central Utah.

In a proclamation released by the department they stated that wildfire danger is unseasonably high this year due to weather and dry fuel conditions in central Utah.

They also discussed that “minimizing the threat of wildfire on state and private lands in southwest Utah is critical to maintaining public health, safety and welfare and economic well-being.”

It was also stated that open burning is a common cause of wildfire and that this extension “would prohibit open burning on state and unincorporated private land.”

Due to all these factors the closed fire season that normally ends Oct 31, will now also be in effect from Nov. 7 until Nov. 30 in Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne counties.
