Teen pleads guilty to kidnapping, robbery

A teen who took a vehicle from three other teens in January, then shot at and abandoned the vehicle, pleaded guilty to robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and other charges in Sixth District Court on Wednesday, June 26.  Alex Balderrama Hernandez, 18, kidnapped the teens when they stopped to talk with him on State Street in Mt. Pleasant.  Hernandez instructed the teens to get in the car and drive west on 500 South, then told the teens exit the vehicle.  He later shot the vehicle multiple times and beat it with a sledghammer.  Hernandez was arrested by Provo City Police the following day.  On Wednesday, Hernandez pleaded guilty to robbery, kidnapping and criminal mischief, all 2nd degree felonies; as well as aggravated assault and felony discharge of a firearm, both 3rd degree felonies.  Another charge of enticing a minor was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.  A pre-sentence investigation will be performed before Hernandez is sentenced on August 7.
