Prescribed burn on Monroe Mountain to intensify

A prescribed burn on Monroe Mountain in Piute County will intensify on Wednesday and Thursday.

The U.S. Forest Service is planning to burn approximately 200 acres Wednesday on the South side of the mountain.

On Thursday an additional 2,000 acres will be burned with a combination of hand and aerial ignitions.

Officials advise that smoke will be visible in surrounding areas in Piute and Sevier Counties.

Several areas will also be closed off to the public during the burn.

The project is located near Rock Springs, Big Table, and Manning Creek, approximately five miles west of Greenwich and seven miles east of Marysvale.
