Hail on I-70 causes slide-offs and crash Tuesday

One man is now recovering after hail Tuesday afternoon caused a crash on I-70 East of Salina in Sevier County.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Joseph Gasper of Colorado was driving Eastbound near mile post 89 when he approached other vehicles ahead slowing for hail and snow that was beginning to form on the road.

As Gasper slowed though, he lost control and slid into a tractor trailer.

The tractor trailer driver was uninjured, but a passanger in Gasper’s vehicle, 25-year-old Cordina Simmons, was taken to the hospital with abdominal injuries.

UHP also reports several slide-offs in the same area around the same time after 12 p.m. Tuesday.
