RICHFIELD, Utah-Friday, during the first day of competition at the 2-A state wrestling tournament at the Sevier Valley Center, the Millard Eagles posted 126 points to lead headed into Saturday’s championship event.
Beaver is currently in third place with 100 points while North Sevier is fourth with 82.5 points.
Gunnison is tied for seventh place with Enterprise as both the Bulldogs and Wolves have 63 points.
Kanab is ninth with 49 points.
In 1-A, the Monticello Buckaroos have the lead with 128.5 points. Wayne is second with 92 points, with Milford in third with 84 points.
Panguitch is fourth with 75 points and Piute is seventh with 28 points.
In 1-A, at the 106-pound level, Wayne’s Jesse Peterson will battle Paxton Christensen of Monticello for a state title at that weight.
In the 113-pound class in 1-A, Porter Schoppe of Panguitch is contending for a state title against Rich’s Joseph Trujillo.
The 120-pound division in 1-A will see Piute’s Jax Coburn go against Monticello’s Brevin Olson.
At 126 pounds, Milford’s Karson Wunderlich competes for the 1-A title against Wade Jeffery of Wayne.
At the 132-pound division in 1-A, Blake Barnes of Milford faces Wayne’s Mason Wells.
At 160 pounds in 1-A, Panguitch’s Kevin Bridges faces Rich’s Colton Hislop.
At the 170-pound division, Milford’s Bryson Barnes squares off against Hunter Marshall of Panguitch for the 1-A title.
At 182 pounds, Milford’s Flint Holm faces Diamond Ranch’s Dillon Bouvang of Diamond Ranch for a 1-A state championship.
At 220 pounds in 1-A, Wayne’s Jacob Oldroyd faces Monticello’s Dillon Slack for a state title.
Finally, at 285 pounds in 1-A, Milford’s Ike Keller and Daniel Ayala of Wayne will be contending for the title against Whitehorse’s Fernando Morales.
In 2-A, more preliminaries remain to be wrestled but there will be more information later this evening.
