(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Republicans are racing against the deadline to gather enough signatures to place an initiative on the November ballot. The GOP is trying to repeal the Proposition 4 Better Boundaries initiative passed in 2018 in order to allow the Legislature to decide congressional and legislative districts. So far, county clerks have validated over 46-thousand-700 signatures as of Friday. Republicans still need to gather 94-thousand more by February 14th. The effort comes after a Salt Lake City judge faced threats after rejecting the congressional map drawn by Republican lawmakers in November. Judge Diana Gibson ruled the GOP-drawn map violated Proposition 4, saying it unfairly favored Republicans.
