NEW ORLEANS-Wednesday, BYU freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier was named as the Manning Quarterback Award recipient of the week after leading the now-No. 10 Cougars to a 41-27 win over Iowa State last Saturday.

The native of Murrieta, Calif. completed 22-34 passes for 307 yards and two scores for BYU in the win.

This season, Bachmeier is completing just under 63 percent of his passes for 1,693 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions this season.

Bachmeier and his BYU teammates are on their bye week but return to action November 8 at Texas Tech as the Big 12 season ensues for both squads.
