EUGENE, Ore.-Saturday, as NCAA Track and Field championship competition concluded, Utah State’s Cierra Simmons earned All-American status, becoming the only woman for the Aggies to do so at Hayward Field.
Simmons placed eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:49.33, breaking her own personal record in the event.
Because of her eighth-place finish, Simmons earned one point for the Aggies, marking only the fourth time in program history that this has happened.
The Aggies’ best finish in the women’s track and field standings for nationals came in 1997 when they tied for 38th place.
Furthermore, Simmons, a junior out of Soda Springs, Idaho, is only the 13th female Aggie to earn All-American recognition and the first distance runner in program history to do so.
