(Salt Lake City, UT) — State Rep. Phil Lyman is asking Utah’s top court to make him the Republican gubernatorial nominee in the upcoming November election. Lyman lost to Governor Spencer Cox in the June 25th Primary Election and filed his pro se request with the state Supreme Court last week. Lyman is challenging the state’s law that allows a dual path to the primary ballot. Lyman qualified by winning the delegate vote at the GOP nominating convention in April, while Cox collected signatures to qualify. Each method is valid under state law. Lyman is arguing he is the rightful GOP nominee because he earned more than 60-percent of the delegate vote. The lawsuit asks the court to toss out the primary election results, which saw Cox win by more than 37-thousand votes.
