Silver King Fire Update

Firefighting efforts are continuing on the Silver King Fire near Marysvale. Incident Meteorologist Sam Weber shared that gusty winds, dry conditions and near 100 degree temperatures over the next couple of days could make suppression efforts more difficult. Weber also shared that “later in the week we could see some moisture come through and help moisture recovery.” Crews are currently trying to use roads as fire breaks with dozers and hot shot crews on site. Rocky Mountain Power crews are prioritizing getting power back on for residents but “will not energize lines where a fire can encroach.” Some small generators are available on a case by case basis for homes. Fire behavior analyst Joe Flores stated, the fire “could be burning for months, but will likely calm down after a week or two.” As of July 8, the fire has burned over 10,800 acres and is zero percent contained.
