A man has been taken into custody after a gun he was carrying went off while in the self-checkout area of the Richfield Walmart. According to a press release from the Richfield City Police, “Zachery Hampton, age 26 of Richfield, was apparently adjusting the handgun that was being held in the waistband of his pants when it went off.” He fled the scene immediately and the gunshot was reported to police. Hampton was quickly identified by officers, found at a Richfield residence and taken into custody. Hampton was then transported to Sevier Valley Hospital for evaluation of injuries caused by the gunshot. No one else was injured in the incident.
