A FedEx driver was in the right place at the right time to help a man stuck in a hole in Monroe. According to Sevier County Sheriff Nathan Curtis, an elderly man in Monroe “was working on some pipes in a hand dug hole in his yard when he slipped in face first and was unable to push himself back out due to his arms being pinned.” Cody Stermer, a FedEx driver, was delivering packages nearby and saw the man’s feet sticking out. Cody attempted to lift the man out, but he was wedged in the hole. EMT’s, deputies and Monroe Fire were paged to help extricate the man. Curtis shared, “his breathing was shallow and labored, he also wasn’t responding very well, but once they got him out of the hole he started to breathe better and became more responsive.” Curtis also thanked Stermer for noticing and quickly reacting and getting help there.
