(Marrakesh, MAR) — Utah National Guard troops are in Morocco after a devastating earthquake killed over two-thousand people. In a strange coincidence, the troops were sent there to train for an exercise called “Moroc Mantlet”, which is preparation for earthquake response. According to Lieutenant Colonel Chris Kroeber, while the troops aren’t currently there to provide relief, they are prepared to pivot if asked to do so. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in Marrakesh, where many buildings crumbled in the 6.8 magnitude quake.
