Monday, BYU and Utah football were each represented on the Bednarik Award Watch List. This award is annually presented to the most outstanding defensive player in FBS college football.
BYU is represented by junior linebacker Ben Bywater, a former Olympus High School star, and Utah by junior safety Cole Bishop.
Bywater posted three interceptions, a sack and four tackles for a loss for the Cougars last season.
Last season, Bishop recorded an interception, 1.5 sacks and three defensed passes for the Utes.
BYU starts the season September 2 by hosting FBS newcomer Sam Houston at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Things start for the Utes August 31 by hosting Florida at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
