Utah Lawmaker Introduces “Don’t Say Gay” Bill

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Utah lawmaker has introduced a bill to bar discussion of sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade classrooms. The bill sponsored by Draper Republican Representative Jeff Stenquist directly copies language from a Florida law critics call the “Don’t Say Gay” measure. Stenquist said he felt it was important to draft the bill after a mom came to him with concerns about discussions in her child’s classroom. The bill has a tough road to passing with only six working days left in the legislative session.
