House Passes Substitute Bill Banning Transgender Youth Surgery, Hormone Treatment

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Members of the Utah House are signaling their support for a permanent ban on gender-affirming surgery and hormone treatment for minors. The House passed a substitute bill yesterday banning both procedures. The substitute passed yesterday alters the original Senate bill by removing a four-year pause on treatments like puberty blockers and making the ban permanent. It also will allow children who change their minds about ongoing treatment to sue healthcare providers. The bill now has to go back to the Senate for further discussion.
