Utah Supreme Court To Hear Lawsuit Over Congressional Redistricting

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Supreme Court is stepping in to hear arguments in a lawsuit over congressional redistricting. The associate chief justice of the court granted a request by the state legislature on Friday. That will allow the court to step in and review a motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by state lawmakers. A lower court has refused to dismiss the suit filed by several voter interest groups. The groups accuse state lawmakers of splitting parts of Salt Lake City into separate congressional districts to dilute minority voter pools and strengthen Republican candidates.
