A suspect is in custody after multiple fuel thefts in Kane County. According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office one suspect had a modified semi-truck with several holding tanks and another had a Dodge pickup with tanks in the bed. The suspects were able to break into the pumps and manipulate the machinery to pump as long as they needed to fill all of their tanks.
On Dec. 8, an individual who recognized the semi-truck from a KSL story, contacted law enforcement after seeing it at a Maverick in Cedar City. 39 year old Alexander Rodriguez Padilla of Las Vegas was taken into custody where he confirmed the truck was his before requesting an attorney. He was transported to the Kane County Jail where he is being held on three second degree felony theft charges and three related misdemeanor charges.
This case is still under investigation and it is believed that this is an organized crime and involves more vehicles and suspects throughout the state. Approximately $15,000 worth of fuel was stolen in Kane County alone.
