The Sanpete County Commission met with officials from the Central Utah Water Conservancy District last week about an alternative to the Narrows dam and reservoir. Officials have made it clear that the Gunnison Irrigation Company and Gunnison Reservoir would be highly involved in any alternative plans.

The big issue the county faces is water than runs from Sanpete into Carbon County. Courts have said the water belongs to Sanpete County. The purpose of the Narrows Project has been to keep that water in Sanpete, but the project could be abandoned under a new proposal. The end goal is to have the water flow down pipes and into Fairview Canyon as opposed to one reservoir. An agreement is said to be near completion.
