Just after 4:00 p.m. on May 6, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Torrey/Teasdale Fire Departments were notified of a fire that had gotten out of control in Grover. The fire was being driven by the wind and residents near the fire were quickly evacuated as a precaution.
U.S. Forest Service, BLM fire personnel and Bicknell and Loa Fire Departments were also paged to assist. Decreasing winds and cooler temperatures assisted in stopping the fires progress and at approximately 8:00 p.m. residents were allowed back in their homes. By 8:45 p.m. the fire was completely contained outside of a few hot spots, which crews checked on the next morning to assure they were completely extinguished.
