The Sixth District Courtroom in Manti was packed on Friday, but not with lawyers and defendants. This time the crowd was there to see Brody Keisel sworn in as the newest judge in the Sixth District Court. Keisel was appointed by Governor Herbert and approved by the Utah Legislature to replace retiring judge Paul Lyman on the juvenile court bench. In addition to Keisel’s family and a large group of supporters, Lt. Governor Spencer Cox and former Governor’s Staff member Jon Cox were also in attendance. After remarks by Judge Marvin Bagley, Judge Wallace Lee administered the oath to Keisel, who was then robed by his two daughters. Keisel remarked he was humbled by the crowd that had come to support him and promised to continue to rule with fairness and compassion as his predecessors had.
Keisel is only the fourth judge to preside over the Juvenile Court in the last 45 years. The Sixth District Court covers the largest geographical area in the State, stretching from the Utah County border to the Arizona border.
