(Salt Lake City, UT) — A new method for treating pneumonia in emergency rooms tested by Intermountain Healthcare shows great promise in reducing deaths. In the study, clinicians use a real-time electronic decision support system called an ePNa to help treat patients. Researchers found that use of the ePNa reduced mortality rates for pneumonia by 38-percent. The study also shows a decrease in admission to intensive care, and a decrease in the time for when a patient receives necessary antibiotics.
