(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Spencer Cox’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2023 includes 45-million dollars to help preserve and protect the Great Sale Lake. It’s part of his 25-billion-dollar state budget that also features a half-billion in water conservation measures and a 160-million-dollar grocery tax credit. At a news conference yesterday at the Antelope Island Visitor Center, Governor Cox said funding will come from the American Rescue Plan Congress passed this year. This past May, another five-million was allocated for the work on the Great Salt Lake. The lake reached historically low levels this past year and currently sits at 41-hundred-90 feet, about ten feet below average levels. Experts have said a smaller lake could lead to environmental and economic problems for the region.
