RICHFIELD, Utah-Wednesday, the Quality Center of Richfield hosted the 2-A South Region football media day.
The teams in order of appearance were South Sevier, Beaver, Grand, Millard, Delta and San Juan.
San Juan

The Broncos were represented by head coach Barkley Christensen, receiver/defensive back Cooper Black, receiver/defensive back Ladd Ivins, quarterback/outside linebacker Jace Palmer and tailback/linebacker Jensen Grover. The Broncos are coming off an 8-4 season which saw Black, Ivins, Palmer and Grover all playing integral roles only to return for another campaign.
Grover cited the importance of coming off strong following the losses to Juab which ended the Broncos’ seasons in football and boys basketball, respectively.
Christensen cited San Juan’s preseason schedule, calling it “the toughest we have ever had.”
In non-region play, the Broncos draw Desert Hills, Summit Academy, Bayfield (Colo.), Milford and Canyon View.
Christensen concludes his comments by saying he appreciates the kids in the San Juan community who have bolstered his program.
Delta

The Rabbits were represented by head coach/defensive coordiator Jon Winters, linemen Seth Bryan and Austin Loe, tailback/linebacker Carson Denbow and tailback/defensive back Josh Jackson.
Winters explained the tragic death of former Delta High School standout student-athlete Chase Fowles which has taken head coach Russ Fowles away from the program currently.
Bryan said the Rabbits have had a dedicated mentality in the weight room this offseason. Delta comes off of a 5-8 season which saw them put forth a spirited effort in the 3-A semifinals before falling 20-12 to eventual state-champion Juab.
Winters was optimistic about his team, saying he likes what he has seen thus far.
Winters continued, saying that he wants to see toughness out of his kids.
When Wilkinson asked Winters about how he feels concerning rivalries out of region, he said he likes the competition. Numerous Rabbits unanimously declared they always look forward to playing North Sanpete. Lovell, a former football player at Delta, also stated in his generation at Delta High School, North Sanpete was traditionally a big game for the Rabbits.
Millard

The Eagles were represented by head coach Ethan Stephenson, tailback/linebacker Dakota Maxfield, receiver Eric Larsen, linema Landen Worley, quarterback James Stephenson, receiver Mekhi Davis and offensive lineman Josh Whitaker.
Millard went 6-6 last season and James Stephenson said he hopes the continuity this season will enable him to have a successful season at the Eagles’ signal-caller.
Ethan Stephenson shared thoughts about realignment, succinctly saying that it’s still Millard football that will be played.
Ethan Stephenson also spoke of the importance of a football camp hosted by former Millard High School stars, Aaron, Jason and Jesse Boone at Fillmore this past summer and how it carried the tradition of Millard High School football.
Maxfield says he wants to see “the younger guys” in the program to see what Millard Eagles football is all about. Worley cited the importance of good leadership. James Stephenson wants to bring back “old-school Millard football.
Grand

The Red Devils were represented by 1st year head coach Samuel Crane, tailback Tanner Crane, tailback Blane Thompson, receiver Isaac O’Harra, quarterback/liebacker Sage Stroder and Cody “The Brick” Knudsen, an offensive lineman/defensive tackle.
Tanner Crane said Grand was a dysfunctional team last season. The Red Devils unceremoniously suffered through a 1-9 campaign. When fielding a question from Wilkinson, Samuel Crane said “I don’t know what I don’t know.” He cited appreciation for his high school coaches.
Samuel Crane said he is looking forward to his season opener as the Red Devils play Monticello. He confirmed Monticello High School is his alma mater.

Beaver
The Beavers were represented by head coach Jon Marshall, tight end Conner Crum, tailback Cobe Carter, interior lineman Nate Benson and outside linebacker/slot back Statler Wright.
Crum said he wanted to focus on his ability to excel and get better. Carter said he wants to get his pads on and play football. Wright said he wants to work harder every day. Lovell noted Wright competed at state finals rode this summer at Heber City and would only wear a blue cowboy hat as that is Beaver’s primary school color.
Marshall, when fielding a question from Mid-Utah Radio sportscaster Tanner Wilkinson, said he will have to be patient to see this team gel. The Beavers graduated a significant amount of seniors last season.
Marshall, in his 5th year as the Beavers’ head football coach, cited numerous assistants for being instrumental in his success, including former Beaver head coach Steve Hutchings and Randy Hunter, currently a special education supervisor at Beaver School District.
Across the board, Marshall and all Beavers student-athletes who participated, cited Kanab, a game slated for August 13 on the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network (KSVC-FM ; midutahradio.com) as the game they are most looking forward to.

South Sevier
The Rams were represented by head coach John Ramage, quarterback Carter Abraham, interior offensive lineman Jaxon Jones, flanker Bodie Payne and linebacker Braxton Price.
Ramage said the Rams want to get away from “social distancing” defensively in regard to the other team and the effort needs to be more consistent than last season.
The Rams are coming off of a 2-9 campaign.
Abraham said he wants to win more games than last season when addressing a question from event moderator Robert Lovell.
Payne says he has the North Sevier game, slated for August 13, circled on the calendar as he wants to show everyone this is not the same Rams team as the past few seasons.
Ramage cited the need for his team to play well when adversity strikes this season.
