Urtez/Flippen Shine At International Cup

SALT LAKE CITY-Thursday, a pair of former Utah softball standouts excelled for their respective countries at the USA Softball International cup of Irvine, Calif.

Hannah Flippen, a current Utes assistant coach, represented the United States, helping the Blue team to a third place finish. She led the team in hits (14), doubles (4), home runs (5), extra base hits (10), runs scored (12), RBI (20) and slugging (1.522) while amassing an astronomical .609 batting average.

Her former teammate at Utah, Mexican national Anissa Urtez, batted .313 and paced the team in total hits.

She was also second on the squad with a .500 slugging percentage and .899 OPS. In the field, she did not commit an error in 25 total chances.

Flippen and Urtez are currently teammates with the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch of Conroe, Texas and will compete in the Monica Abbott Classic before closing the season at Myrtle Beach, S.C. July 24 and 25.
