LOGAN, Utah-Tuesday afternoon, Utah State men’s basketball was announced as one of eight teams to compete at the 2022 Diamond Head Classic of Honolulu, Hawaii December 22-25.
Joining the Aggies at this tournament are George Washington, Hawaii, Iona, Pepperdine, Seattle U., Southern Methodist and Washington State.
All of these schools, with the exception of Pepperdine, are preparing to compete in their respective conference tournaments this week.
George Washington will face Massachusetts Thursday in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Hawaii is to face UC Riverside Thursday in the first round of the Big West Tournament.
Iona is the No. 1 seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and will face the winner of Manhattan/Rider Wednesday in the conference tournament quarterfinals. The Gaels are coached by legendary head coach Rick Pitino.
Pepperdine, a conference rival of BYU in the West Coast Conference, ended its season at 7-25.
Seattle U. is the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tournament and has received a bye into the conference semifinals Friday.
SMU will play in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Friday in the quarterfinals against Tulsa or Wichita State. The Mustangs are the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
Washington State, as the No. 7 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament, will face No. 10 seed California Wednesday at the T-Mobile Arena of Las Vegas.
