Utah Football Enjoys Successful Tuesday

SAN FRANCISCO-Tuesday, three University of Utah football leaders were honored for their accomplishments this season by the Pac-12.

Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham, star senior linebacker Devin Lloyd and freshman defensive end Junior Tafua each earned conference performers of the year honors in their respective roles.

Whittingham was named the Pac-12 coach of the year, Lloyd the Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year and Tafua earned Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Whittingham is now Utah’s all-time wins leader, with 144 victories at the helm of the program.

Lloyd is the first Ute to win the Tillman Defensive Player of the Year award.  Lloyd has amassed a team-best 106 net tackles on the season. This includes 22 tackles for a loss and 8 sacks.

Tafuna has posted 4.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss for the Utes.

Utah competes in the Rose Bowl for the first time in Pac-10 history January 1 against Big Ten challenger Ohio State at Pasadena, Calif.
