SALT LAKE CITY-Wednesday, the University of Utah confirmed its athletics class will be inducted September 1. This is part of Utah football’s opening weekened as the Utes host Weber State September 2.

The newest class consists of six former Ute All-Americans including Lori Baird (volleyball), Anthony Brown (football), Casey Child (baseball), Eddie Johnson (football), Alex Smith (football) and Amy Timmel-Hogue (softball).

Former men’s basketball standout Andrew Bogut, the 2005 Consensus National Player of the Year, and former women’s basketball player Leilani Mitchell were also included in this class but could not attend this season.

In 1994, Brown earned Third Team The Associated Press All-American status and first-team All-WAC honors.

He was an anchor on the offensive line for a unit that scored more than 36 points per game that season.

Brown subsequently played for the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Johnson ran for 3,219 yards and 35 scores during his collegiate career with the Utes. He was a first-team All-WAC selection in 1984 and earned all-conference hours again as a junior in 1986.

Smith was the No. 1 selection in the 2005 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He also played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Redskins.

Smith’s contributions in 2004 were instrumental in helping the Utes become the first BCS busters in college football. After besting Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl that season, the Utes ended the season ranked No. 4 in The Associated Press poll.
