PROVO, Utah-Monday, BYU freshman guard Foussenyi Traore was named as the West Coast Conference co-freshman of the week, sharing the honor with Gonzaga center Chet Holmgren.

This commemorates the third time Traore has achieved this honor on the season.

In wins over San Diego (78-71) last Thursday and Portland (78-65) last Saturday, Traore averaged 13.5 points, 10.5 rebounds per game and posted two net blocks.

In Saturday’s win over the Pilots, Traore also shot 6-6 for the game.

Traore is averaging 8.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for the Cougars. He is also shooting 56 percent from the field on the season (66-117).

Traore and his BYU teammates return to action Thursday by visiting the Santa Clara Broncos as the WCC season ensues.

The Cougars are presently 17-4 and 5-1 in WCC play.
