RIO VERDE, Ariz.-Thursday, Southern Utah University sophomore men’s golfer Ali Hameed advanced to the quarterfinals of the 94th Arizona State Amateur as one of eight golfers still in contention at the Tonto Verde Golf Club of Rio Verde, Ariz.
Hameed qualified for match play at the event as he posted a 64 on the second day of stroke play.
This brought his 2-day score to an even-par 143, putting him on a tie for 22nd on the leaderboard.
He continued into the quarterfinals by knocking off Chad Wilcox at the 19th hole. While playing in the Nicklaus bracket, Hameed goes up against George Markham Friday as the winner advances to the semifinals.
