FARMINGTON, Utah-Thursday, Big Sky Conference coaches and media unanimously selected Southern Utah men’s basketball to defend their regular season Big Sky Conference championship from last season.
The Thunderbirds went 20-4 (.857) last season, achieving their highest win percentage in the program’s Division I history.
Head coach Todd Simon (53-78, .405 in five seasons at SUU) returns the majority of his production from last season’s squad.
This includes leading returning scorer, senior guard Tevian Jones (16.9 points per game).
SUU received 98 votes, including eight first-place votes.
Weber State was selected to finish second in the Big Sky Conference standings.
The Wildcats received 91 votes, including two first-place votes.
Entering his 16th season at the helm of the Wildcats’ program, Randy Rahe (278-173, .616) holds the Big Sky record for most coaching victories.
Rahe’s leading returning scorer is Seikou Sisoho “Sigu” Jawara as he averaged 12.3 points per game last season for the Wildcats.
