WEST JORDAN, Utah-PJ Hancock homered and the No. 7 Union Cougars pummeled No. 6 Manti 14-2 Wednesday at Cate Field. Ryan Oakey posted three strikeouts in five innings of work to earn the win on the mound for the Cougars. Bo Stevens, Reggie Frischknecht, Braxton Henningson, Jaden Barton and Britton Keisel each collected a hit in defeat for the Templars. This sets up a Thursday elimination game between Manti and Union at 4:30 pm at Cate Field with the winner advancing to the 3A championship.
WEST JORDAN, Utah-Ben Harden, Luke Bauerle and Beck Sheffield drove in two runs apiece and the No. 5 Morgan Trojans dismantled No. 4 Canyon View 8-1 Wednesday at Cate Field. Brigham Spens recorded a strikeout in 6.1 innings of work to earn the win on the mound for the Trojans. Cameron Calvez drove in a run in the loss for the Falcons. Morgan has forced a Thursday elimination game against Canyon View Thursday at 7:00 pm at Cate Field. The winner will advance to the 3A championship.
One-Loss Bracket
WEST JORDAN, Utah-Gavin Roberts and Cade Frandsen drove in three runs apiece and the No. 7 Union Cougars ended No. 2 Juab’s season with a 13-9 upset win over the Wasps Wednesday in the one-loss bracket at Cate Field. Tyson Marx recorded a strikeout in 2.1 innings of work to earn the win on the mound for the Cougars. Austin Park homered in defeat for the Wasps. Kanyon Mattinson drove in two more runs in the loss for Juab. Garrett Hofer, Jimmy Larson and David Jennings added an additional RBI apiece in defeat for the Wasps. Union next advances to play Manti later this afternoon at Cate Field.
WEST JORDAN, Utah-Luke Bauerle drove in three runs and the No. 5 Morgan Trojans overcame a 5-0 deficit to outlast No. 8 Emery 6-5 in the one-loss bracket at Cate Field Wednesday. Ryker Moser earned the win on the mound for Morgan. Mason Stilson, Wade Stilson, Turner Stoker and Peyton Alton drove in a run apiece in defeat for Emery. The Trojans next face No. 4 Canyon View in the Wednesday nightcap from Cate Field in bracket play.
