3A Stat Playoffs First Round
RICHFIELD, Utah-Russell Gibson led the way with 12 points and the No. 18 ALA Eagles upset No. 15 Richfield 41-36 in the first round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs Wednesday. Connor Holroyd had 10 points in the loss for the Wildcats. ALA next visits No. 2 North Sanpete Saturday at 5:00 pm in the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
PRICE, Utah-Aaydan Saucedo and Anywan Kuang had 16 points apiece and the No. 19 Judge Memorial Bulldogs upset No. 14 Carbon 45-39 Wednesday in the first round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs. Rylan Hart led the Dinos in defeat with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Judge next visits No. 3 Grantsville Saturday in the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
CEDAR CITY, Utah-Andrew Barnes stepped up with 23 points and the No. 12 Canyon View Falcons drilled No. 21 Delta 83-54 in the first round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs Wednesday. Cai Henderson led the Rabbits in defeat with 15 points. Canyon View next faces No. 5 Morgan in the second round of the 3A state playoffs Saturday.
KAMAS, Utah-Gibson Walton posted 19 points and the No. 13 South Summit Wildcats pounded No. 20 Grand 76-37 Wednesday in the first round of the 3A state boys basketball playoffs. Trace York had 9 points in defeat for the Red Devils. Saturday, South Summit’s season continues as they visit No. 4 Juan Diego in the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
HERRIMAN, Utah-The No. 17 Emery Spartans got past No. 16 Providence Hall 71-64 Wednesday in the first round of the 3A state playoffs Wednesday. Emery next visits No. 1 Layton Christian Saturday in the second round of the 3A state playoffs.
2A State Playoffs First Round
SALINA, Utah-Randy Elmer posted nine points and six assists as the No. 14 North Sevier Wolves shellacked No. 19 St. Joseph 63-45 Wednesday in the first round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs. Nine Wolves scored with none exceeding the double-figures threshold as North Sevier posted 21 assists on 26 field goals to effectively share the ball in victory.
Bjorn Mauritsen’s game-high 13 points on 5-7 from the field led the Jayhawks in defeat.
North Sevier improves to 8-13 on the season with the win and next faces their fellow Wolves in 2A, Enterprise, the No. 3 seed, Saturday at 1:00 pm at Enterprise High School in the second round of the 2A state playoffs.
St. Joseph concludes the season with a record of 2-14.
SANDY, Utah-Andrew Smaellie led the way with 21 points and the No. 15 Waterford Ravens smacked No. 18 Maeser Prep in the first round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs Wednesday. Talon Townsend and Sam Aguilar had 8 points apiece in defeat for the Lions. Waterford next visits No. 2 Millard Saturday in the second round of the 2A state playoffs.
KANAB, Utah-Logan Little netted 16 points and the No. 10 Kanab Cowboys routed No. 23 Utah Military-Hillfield 91-42 Wednesday in the first round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs. The Cowboys next visit No. 7 Draper APA Saturday in the second round of the 2A state playoffs.
BEAVER, Utah-Cobe Carter stepped up with 20 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds as the No. 16 Beaver Beavers waxed No. 17 Gunnison Valley 48-33 in the first round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs Wednesday. Brogan Christensen had 9 points in the loss for the Buffaloes. Beaver next visits No. 1 San Juan Saturday in the second round of the 2A state playoffs.
COALVILLE, Utah-Kandon Mosher posted 14 points and the No. 13 North Summit Braves crushed No. 20 Utah Military-Camp Williams 69-20 Wednesday in the first round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs. Andre Loya and Easton Atwood had 5 points apiece for the Marauders in defeat.
DUCHESNE, Utah-Garett Fabrizio led the way with 17 points and the No. 12 Duchesne Eagles routed No. 21 Merit 87-31 in the first round of the 2A state boys basketball playoffs Wednesday. Kael Bunker had 10 points in the loss for the Knights. Duchesne next visits No. 5 South Sevier Saturday in the second round of the 2A state playoffs.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah-No. 11 APA West Valley dominated No. 22 Freedom Prep 74-47 in the first round of the 2A boys basketball state tournament Wednesday.
Girls Basketball
Region 20 Tournament
JUNCTION, Utah-Tera Morgan netted 16 points and the No. 1 Piute Thunderbirds bested No. 8 Water Canyon 39-26 Wednesday in the first round of the Region 20 tournament. Melissa Jessop had 12 points for the Wildcats in defeat. Piute next faces No. 4 Escalante Friday at 6:20 pm at Panguitch High School in the region quarterfinals. Water Canyon faces No. 5 Milford Friday at 8:30 am at Panguitch High School in the consolation bracket.
PANGUITCH, Utah-Abbee Holman had 19 points and the No. 2 Panguitch Bobcats stymied No. 7 Bryce Valley 37-31 in the first round of the Region 20 tournament Wednesday. Reagan Syrett’s 12 points led the Mustangs in defeat. The Bobcats next face No. 3 Wayne Friday at 3:10 pm at Panguitch High School. Bryce Valley next draws No. 6 Valley Friday at 11:50 am in the consolation bracket at Panguitch High School.
ESCALANTE, Utah-Kenzie Lyman netted 15 points and the No. 4 Escalante Moquis downed No. 5 Milford 45-35 Wednesday in the first round of the the Region 20 tournament. Tayleah Spaulding had 13 points for the Tigers in the loss.
BICKNELL, Utah-Hali Peterson had 20 points and 8 rebounds as the No. 3 Wayne Badgers smacked No. 6 Valley 68-52 in the first round of the Region 20 tournament. Janilyn Hoyt had 21 points for the Buffaloes in defeat.
