3-A Semifinals at Southern Utah University
CEDAR CITY, Utah-William Lance ran for 202 yards on 19 carries, including a 54-yard scoring run, and the No. 4 Morgan Trojans bludgeoned No. 1 Juab 54-38 Saturday in the 3-A state football semifinals at Eccles Coliseum on the campus of Southern Utah University.
The Trojans amassed 500 yards of offense, including 410 rushing yards, in downing the Wasps.
Alex Jackson completed 37 of 50 passes for 347 yards, four touchdowns and an interception for the Wasps, whose season ends with a record of 9-3.
Wesley Nielsen (11 rec, 190 yards, 3 TD’s) also had a strong showing in defeat for the Wasps.
Jaxon Larsen added 1.5 sacks in the win for the Trojans, who improved to 10-2.
Morgan will play Grantsville for a 3-A state championship Saturday at Stewart Stadium on the campus of Weber State Uiversity in Ogden at 5:00 pm.
CEDAR CITY, Utah-Gabe Mouritsen ran for 94 yards and a score on 7 carries as the No. 3 Grantsville Cowboys downed No. 2 Juan Diego 28-14 Saturday in the 3-A state semifinals at Eccles Coliseum. Dillen Richardson also added a scoring reception in victory for Grantsville.
This win was noteworthy as it represents only the second time in school history that the Cowboys have vanquished the Soaring Eagle. Grantsville is now 2-17 all-time against Juan Diego.
Nicholas Ceballos (9 rec, 164 yards, TD rec) led the Soaring Eagle in defeat. Juan Diego ends the season with a record of 8-3. Grantsville improves to 9-3 as they face their old-school rivals, the Morgan Trojans for a 3-A state title.
2-A Semifinals at Southern Utah University
CEDAR CITY, Utah-Jace Palmer completed 15 of 17 passes for 252 yards and added 13 carries for 100 yards and four scores as the No. 1 San Juan Broncos outgunned No. 4 Summit Academy 60-35 Saturday in the 2-A state semifinals at Eccles Coliseum on the campus of Southern Utah University.
Jensen Grover (32 car, 165 yards, 3 TD’s) and Ladd Ivins (10 rec, 162 yards) also excelled for the Broncos, who amassed 556 yards on 65 plays or 8.6 yards per snap.
Defensively, Bronson Snyder posted 3.5 sacks and Collin Baker had two interceptions, including a 70-yard theft for a score for the Broncos in the victory. Jersey Nieves added another interception for the Broncos that set up a short field for Palmer’s last score to put the game away in the 4th Quarter.
In the loss, Devin Watson (31-50, 477 yards, 5 TD’s/3 INT’s) and Chance Arbon (11 rec, 301 yards, 2 TD’s) led the Bears, whose season ends at 7-5.
San Juan improves to 11-1 and next plays Beaver for a 2-A state championship Saturday November 13 at 2:00 pm at Stewart Stadium on the campus of Weber State University in Ogden.
CEDAR CITY, Utah-Ayden Bradshaw scored the game-winning touchdown from 2 yards out in the 4th Quarter and the No. 3 Beaver Beavers pulled an upset, via seeding, over No. 2 South Summit 21-14 Saturday at Eccles Coliseum in the 2-A state semifinals.
The Beavers had 19 more snaps (59-40) than South Summit, which proved instrumental in 11-1 Beaver ending the season of the previously undefeated Wildcats, who end their campaign at 11-1.
Tyten Fails added a 1-yard scoring pass to Cobe Carter for Beaver, while Carter added 83 rushing yards and another score via the run for the Beavers.
Defensively, Conner Crum had 1.5 sacks for the Beavers while Jayton Jessup and Bentley Bradshaw each recorded interceptions for Beaver in victory.
Calaby Thompson had three receptions for 73 yards and a score in defeat for the Wildcats.
