Monday, Kanab junior boys basketball standout Jordan Cornell and Panguitch junior wrestler Cael Houston each received Deseret News Athlete of the Week honors for their attainments in their respective sports.

Cornell posted a career-high 32 points and nailed eight 3-pointers as the Kanab Cowboys routed San Juan 68-51 last Friday.

Cornell ranks fourth in 2A with 16.7 points per game on the season.

During the 1A state wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday, Houston went 3-0 in the 157-pound bracket with three pins in a stellar showing.

Houston finished the season with a record of 38-5 for the Bobcats.
