CEDAR CITY, Utah-Tuesday, Southern Utah University announced its new football coach as DeLane Fitzgerald was appointed to the position.

Fitzgerald has spent the past eight seasons as the head football coach at NCAA Division II Frostburg State (Md.).

Fitzgerald will officially be announced as the Thunderbirds’ new head football coach Thursday at the Sharwan Smith Center Ballroom.

Fitzgerald led the Bobcats to a record of 62-19 (.765) during his time at the helm of the program.

Previously, Fitzgerald coached for five seasons at NCAA Division III Southern Virginia University from 2009-2014. He led the Knights to a record of 15-28 (.348).

Fitzgerald will lead the Thunderbirds into the Western Athletic Conference  next season.
