Monday, the Big 12 released its all-preseason football team.

All Big 12 Preseason Team

The Big 12 all-preseason team had a Utah flavor with the Cougars and Utes both posting a strong presence.

Arizona State redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Leavitt was named the conference preseason offensive player of the year. Last season, Leavitt completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Sun Devils, who won the Big 12 title and earned a berth in the College Football Playoff, losing 39-31 to Texas in double overtime in the Peach Bowl. Texas Tech graduate senior linebacker Jacob Rodriguez was named the conference preseason defensive player of the year. Rodriguez recorded an interception and five sacks as well as four defensed passes last season for the Red Raiders. Utah junior quarterback Devon Dampier was named the conference’s preseason newcomer of the year. Last season at New Mexico, Dampier completed 57.9 percent of his passes for 2,768 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The BYU and Utah representative on the all-Big 12 preseason teams are as follows:

Offense

BYU senior receiver Chase Roberts (52 rec, 854 yards, 4 TD’s)

BYU senior kicker Will Ferrin (24-27 on field goals; 41-41 on PAT’s last season)

Utah junior offensive lineman Spencer Fano

Utah redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Caleb Lomu

Additionally, BYU head football coach Kalani Sitake was named to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Dodd Trophy which is annually granted to the FBS football coach whose program represents the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.

Sitake has a record of 72-43 (.626) at the helm of the BYU football program (2016-present).

Sitake and his BYU squad open the season August 30 by hosting NCAA FCS Portland State at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Additionally, BYU and Utah will participate in Big 12 Media Days Tuesday and Wednesday at The Star in Frisco, Texas, the world headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys.
