BYU Football Announces Team Captains and Leadership Council

PROVO, Utah-Monday, BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake announced 14 players will serve on the team’s leadership council.

This includes four team captains and 10 alternate co-captains who are representing offense, defense and special teams.

The leadership council was determined by a vote of the team.

The offensive captains are senior center James Empey, a junior who was also a captain last season and sophomore quarterback Jaren Hall.

The defensive captains are sophomore linebackers Keenan Pili and Payton Wilgar.

Co-captains on offense include junior tailback Loponi Katoa and sophomore tailback Tyler Allgeier as well as a pair of receivers in juniors Gunner Romney and Neil Pau’u.

Defensive co-captains include three defensive linemen in senior Uriah Leiataua, junior Lorenzo Fauatea and freshman Tyler Batty and junior defensive back D’Angelo Mandell.

The specialist co-captains are sophomore kicker Jake Oldroyd and freshman punter Ryan Rekhow.
