Blake Anderson Named AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year

LOGAN, Utah-Monday, first-year Utah State head football coach Blake Anderson was named the Region 5 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.

The AFCA recognizes five regional coach of the year winners with Region 5 covering the Mountain West and Pac-12 conferences, as well as independent programs, BYU and New Mexico State.

Anderson led the Aggies to a 10-3 record (6-2 in Mountain West Conference play) and a Mountain West championship with a 46-13 rout of San Diego State Saturday.

The Aggies also became the first team at the NCAA FBS level to go undefeated on the road since 2013. The Aggies were 7-0 away from Logan on the season.

Anderson is also the only first-year FBS coach to win 10 games.

Utah State will play Oregon State December 18 at the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl at SoFi Stadium of Inglewood, Calif.

The other AFCA region coaches of the year are as follows:

Region 1 coach of the year: Luke Fickell-Cincinnati (13-0)

Region 2 coach of the year: Sam Pittman-Arkansas (8-4)

Region 3 coach of the year: Mel Tucker-Michigan State (10-2)

Region 4 coach of the year: Jeff Traylor-Texas-San Antonio (12-1)
