Wales Town recently found out that funding to construct a much-needed new fire station has been approved. The Town will receive $500,000 from a Community Impact Board grant, and another $104,000 through a low interest 20-year loan. The new station will be located immediately north of the existing station, and plans for the building have been moving forward since last fall. The CIB was impressed with the fact that Wales, with a population of 302, has 22 active firefighters. They responded to five major wildfires last season and are considered one of the best fire departments in the county. The new station will be considerably larger than the current building, with three drive-through bays, an office and additional storage space.
