Utah May File Lawsuit Opposing Title IX Proposed Changes

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz says the state could sue the federal government as early as this week to oppose any possible changes to Title IX. Title IX is a federal law passed by Congress in 1972, aimed at eliminating sex discrimination most particularly in school sports. After proposed changes were announced recently by the U.S. Department of Education, several states including Florida and Texas filed lawsuits. Schultz says changes appear to allow students to use bathrooms and locker rooms based on gender identity, which the Utah Legislature voted to outlaw during the last legislative session.
