(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Utah lawmaker wants to expand the criminal charges that can be placed against those who attack workers at healthcare facilities. State Representative Robert Spendlove of Sandy is sponsoring a bill that would elevate the minimum punishment for assault on a healthcare worker to a class A misdemeanor. The bill would also expand an existing law to cover assaults in any part of a healthcare facility. Current law only covers emergency rooms. The Utah Nurses Association is endorsing the bill, which will be considered when the legislature meets next month.
